Leonard de Vinci at the Louvre

The year 2019, the fifth centenary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci in France, has a special significance for the Louvre, which has the largest collection of Leonardo's paintings in the world and 22 drawings.

This unprecedented retrospective of Leonardo's career as a painter shows how much he put painting above everything and how his investigation of the world, which he called "the science of painting", was the instrument of his art, whose ambition was nothing less than to bring life to his paintings.

Result of more than ten years of work, which saw in particular the renewed scientific examination of the paintings of the Louvre and the restoration of three of them, allowing to better understand his artistic practice and his pictorial technique, the exhibition also clarifies the Leonard's biography by taking back all the archival documents. She paints a portrait of a man and an artist of extraordinary freedom.
